Soria’s No Sex Offenders in Elected Office Bill Passes Assembly Floor

Bill Now Moves to Senate

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 2753, which prohibits registered sex offenders from running for public office, passed the Assembly floortoday. Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria (D-Merced) authored this important piece of legislation after reports circulated about a registered sex offender running for city council in Fresno earlier this year. 

Distressed Hospital Loan Program 2.0, AB 1923, Passes Assembly Health Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA –Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria (D-Merced) introduced AB 1923, an update and new round of $300 million in funding to the Distressed Hospital Loan Program (DHLP), which was created in 2023 to help re-open Madera Community Hospital and prevent other hospitals throughout the state from closing. AB 1923 passed unanimously with bipartisan support this week out of the Assembly Health Committee. Signaling how important the legislature considers this program to be funded again, because of severe healthcare cuts from H.R.1.

Stop Super Speeders Act Passes Assembly Privacy Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA –The Stop Super Speeders Act, AB 2276, authored by Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria (D-Merced), passed unanimously with bipartisan support out of the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee this week. The bill would establish a seven-county pilot program requiring reckless speeders to install active Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) devices in their vehicles before getting back on the road.
